This morning, I had the opportunity to attend the Remembrance Day assembly at Lily’s school.  It was very moving.  The student choir sang five songs.  There were student readings, including In Flanders Field. A veteran, who served Canada during the Korean War, addressed the student body.  It is a school tradition that each class creates a poppy wreath. Lily was a wreath bearer for her class.

Watching the ceremony was one of those surreal parenting moments, the sort where you have a lump in your throat.  I have such vivid school girl recollections of participating in Remembrance Day assemblies, making wreaths, and reading poems - to have the opportunity to watch my daughter participate in her first assembly was a memory I will not forget.

  1. The wreaths are great. We attended our school's Veteran's Day program, it was awesome. There is something about patriotism in a small town that is second to none. :)

  5. Very moving. We've had some emotional and "proud" school events honoring our veterans. What lovely wreaths.
