Five years ago

When a baby comes you can smell two things: the smell of flesh , which smells like chicken soup, and the smell of lilies, the flower of another garden, the spiritual garden.

Five years ago my life changed.

We were both so sick, but didn't know it.  Being a new mum, I thought you had colic and I was just "post-partum."

I had puerperal fever (septecemia) and you had bacterial meningitis (spine and brain).   I hemorrhaged, your brain and spine swelled.  To watch your head shake, hear your inconsolable moan and not to be able to hold you was my darkest moment.  Isolation, 24 hour intraveneous, 21 days, 2 spinal taps, veins bursting, pumping breast milk around the clock and finger feeding you until you could suckle.

We made it.

Happy 5th Birthday Miss Lily and thank you Lord.

  1. Oh my...

I was tremendeously shaken by what you had suffered and went through. I can only imagine the heartbreaking moments you had to experience. But you should be proud for being a fighter - both of you!
Happy birthday to the gorgeous Miss Lily!

  5. Wow, you are survivors of what I can only imagine was an uncertain time in both your lives. Thanks for stopping by and saying hi. :)
