Home Depot Kids' Workshop & Chalkboard Paint

Image via Create For Less

Last year (about this time),  Miss Lily made a heart-shaped pine stool at a Home Depot Kids' Workshop.  The stool has been kickin' around in the basement waiting to be made pretty.  Plaid's Red Chalkboard Paint was recently on sale at Deserres (60% off).  I picked up a small tub and we painted the top of the stool chalkboard red. Although the directions call for 2 coats, we needed 4.

The Home Depot workshops are a great opportunity to introduce your little one to wood working (particularly if like me, you're not that handy).  In our area, the workshops usually take place once a month (the second Saturday of each month).  Each child receives their own orange HD apron and a special pin and certificate upon completion of the project. We re-use our apron for each workshop.

Below, is another of my favourite Home Depot Kids' workshop projects - a useful tray that was originally an unpainted pine.  We painted it BJ's cloud white and pasted some pretty scrapbook paper.  You've heard before how much I love pretty papers.

If you are in Ontario, the next kids' workshop takes place on Saturday, February 13th.  The project: a car display. We may give that one a miss and hold out for the much needed Barbie display.
