Last year (about this time), Miss Lily made a heart-shaped pine stool at a Home Depot Kids' Workshop. The stool has been kickin' around in the basement waiting to be made pretty. Plaid's Red Chalkboard Paint was recently on sale at Deserres (60% off). I picked up a small tub and we painted the top of the stool chalkboard red. Although the directions call for 2 coats, we needed 4.
Home Depot workshops are a great opportunity to introduce your little one to wood working (particularly if like me, you're not that handy). In our area, the workshops usually take place once a month (the second Saturday of each month). Each child receives their own orange HD apron and a special pin and certificate upon completion of the project. We re-use our apron for each workshop.
