What to do with Panettone

Chances are that you have stored away all of the trappings and trimmings from Christmas and now you have one of these babies staring at you (image via Amazon).

What do you do with it?

1. Bring it to the office lunch room. I did this once.  It was gone in a matter of minutes.

2. Put egg and syrup on it.  That makes everything a whole lot better.  Giada has a great recipe for pannettone french toast.

Whole Foods has a baked version found here which involves soaking the panettone in the custard mixture overnight.

I made the standard version.

There much better (dollop of yogurt and berries, dusted with icing sugar) and of course maple syrup.  Yum.

  1. I didn't get any Pannetone this year but after looking at your french toast, I'm thinking there still might be time to go out and buy one.

  2. I have found that the "best before" date on most panettone is around March 2010 (quite amazing actually) given that it is considered a holiday treat you actually might score a deal and fall within your $100 diet :) thanks for the encouragement!
